Ron-Le-Bass (Ronle Rouse), born and raised on the beautiful island of St Eustatius, was introduced to music at a young age, growing up in a very musical family. He started to play the bass guitar at the age of 15, and since then it’s been all about the bass. Ronle started off as a bass player in zouk and soca bands in St. Eustatius . Meanwhile Mechanical Engineering Studies brought him to The Netherlands. But after two years it was clear to him: Ronle only wanted to make music.

In 2006 he was accepted at the Conservatorium of Rotterdam. Next to that, Ronle started playing for a Tribute to playing Bob Marley and joined Ziggi, Holland's number one reggae artist. From 2006 till 2009 Ronle played throughout Europe with Ziggi. During this period he also worked with other artists, like Richie Spice, Gyptian, Ali B and GMB.
In 2008 Ronle continued his music studies at the Albeda Musician-Producers College. Here he broadened his musical horizon with music production, live recordings and mixing.

Ronle got inspired to produce an album of his own. Most of the songs were born out of a bass groove, and then keys, guitar and drums were added by top musicians, like Alvin Lewis, Patrick Mijnals and Marcus Machado. Add some of Holland’s finest vocalists, like Soniq, Shirma Rouse, Phatt, Raquel Brown and Jordy van Toornburg.

The album “Pure Groove” takes you on a journey through the 80’s and 90’s with a mix of funk, soul, R&B and hiphop. Pure groove is also a gathering of 20+ musicians and artists, who wanted to share their love for pure music. The message of Pure Groove is to bring people together through music: Music makes the world go round.

Pure Groove was released in april 2011 with a smashing live performance at Rotown Rotterdam. No less than 17 (!) bandmembers and vocalists entered the stage on this memorable night. After that performances for Radio 5, Radio 6, North Sea Round Town, Soulit and Magneetfestival followed. On top of that there is a growing interest from the UK and Germany.

I am confronted with the sound of Manchester again courtesy of Abu Maxim & The Praetorian Steppas thanks to the excellent Chris Crates Meltdown Show another advocater
of new indie music for the Soul !!
I featured the track Sweet Love on last weeks Funkytown Grooves Show and this week will feature both sides of this upcoming 12" vinyl release.

Yes. Sweet Love / Sometimes I get It are coming out on vinyl only on Kat Records. Next few weeks I think. I'll get the label to confirm that.
Abu works with a top team of Manchesters finest musicians inc Chris Manis, Mikey Wilson, Sylvan Richardson, John Ellis, Diane Charlemagne....
I asked Abu for some of his influences

"cool...well firstly I started listening to electro - all the streetsounds stuff and then hip hop. Through hip hop I started to find out where the breaks were lifted from which took me to funk, jazz soul, folk...and at the same time I was into chicago house and detroit techno
I grew up in cheetham hill so I was hit by lots of different musical genres from a very early age...my mum's indian love songs and abba, my dads qawali's and raags, reggae from the neighbours and street soul from the youth club."
That all sounds suitably Street & Dodgy to me :-)He continued :-
"I think I've always liked the electronic side of things though, especially when its mixed with real players - a la Headhunters.

"I worked on a tech house project called Freak Seven. It features Aniff Akinola (Aniff is an old friend of mine from back in the day a great Manc supporter of clubs like Rafters / Berlin with myself Colin Curtis / Hewan Clarke / John Grant no a many years devoted studio hip cat,remember Chapter & Verse Black Whip ) on vocals. It was released early this year on Rush Hour and it caused a few ripples - a lot of big dj's on that scene were playing it. I think its so good because of the vocals though - Aniff is awesome!
Nano Kids'is another project I worked with Aniff and is a pulsating house track which gets uplifted by Aniff's voice, creating an anthematic message from the future."

Yes a 3 Hour SoulGang Radio FunkyTown Grooves Show focusing on the Independent Soul Night Soul Underground based in Walsall West Midlands. The night celebrates it's 10th Anniversary with a session at The Lyndon House Hotel Walsall (Full Details Below).
And joining me in the studio to talk and select music from the 10 years of Soul Underground promotions is it's promoter & DJ Lin Taylor & friends.
Chatroom will be in full effect so you can join in the banter as usual on a Wednesday Night.

Its been a little while but we have finally found a new home for Soul Underground ..back where it all began in Walsall.

I have a lot to do sorting with Flyers and DJ's etc but just wanted to get the word out for now as its a fairly small but very pretty Hotel ( which many of you will know from staying there in the past) so you will need to move quickly to secure a room.

We're going to be at :

The Lyndon House Hotel
Upper Rushall Street
Walsall
West Midlands
WS1 2HA

(Just off Jct 7 of the M6 down the road from the original Wharf ) .

The night will run monthly and we are planning an intimate Weekender there too in the coming months as there are a range of really suitable facilities with an amazing cellar bar and function room as well as the Conservatory that we have chosen.

This is ever such a lovely venue and its perfect for what we need which is to get back to how it used to be in the old days of The Wharf..we'll be staying with the diverse music policy we had then and once again we'll be bringing a variety of DJ's/collectors from all over the UK and inviting the European DJ's back too,so a wide spread of music will be aired with hopefully something for everyone .
I'm also really touched that Glenn Worthington has agreed to come out of retirement and play at the first night for us

The nights can start as early as required,there is an integral Bar in the Function rooms til at least 2 am and we can dance til we want to
Fish will have his Simply Soul stall set up in the function room too

If you want to book a room for the 17th September ,the rooms are really lovely and we have concessionary rates of

£30 per single including breakfast
£50 per double /twin including breakfast.

(For concessions please inform the Hotel that you are with the Soul Underground Soul Night when booking )

You can book in anytime after mid-day and enjoy the lovely outdoor terrace and barbeque in summer or the charming old bar with log fire in winter ..we can pipe the music through to all areas. Upon vacating the owner says that you can have a leisurely breakfast or stay in bed as there is no rush to check out on Sundays..if you want to stay a little while longer ,then there will be a lovely carvery available from 1 pm ( save going home to cook lunch)
I am aware that there are events programmed for this date and I am very sorry for the clash , something I've always prided myself on avoiding over the years but I had no choice at it was this date or Aug 13th which was just too soon .
I hope some of you will come and support our new night , the great thing about this venue is that its privately owned, no changing hands here and we plan to stay and expand the night secure in that knowledge
